These are super rare in Calgary - understandably I wouldn't want to be driving around in the other teams colors!

Good point! Thankfully, I saw it in Canmore. A funny sports team fact is that New York used to offer Boston Red Sox plates (although they no longer issue teams that are not in their state). In New Jersey, you can get Philadelphia Phillies license plates, In Connecticut, you can get Boston Red Sox plates as well!

Oh wow that's super odd that they would even issue them. I guess CT and NJ makes sense because they don't have an MLB team of their own. Still strange to think about.

Both the Calgary Flames organization and the Edmonton Oilers organizations (to which the proceeds of the registration fee goes for these specialty plates) also suffered some issues because it was found that most of their proceeds never actually go to charity. So these plates didn't really do well, on top of not wanting to be a target for vandalism.

Oh... interesting about the proceeds. What makes them more of a target for vandalism? Just the hardcore fans being rowdy?

Yah - the Oilers and the Flames have one of the biggest rivalries in the NHL. They are also the only two major sporting teams in the province.
