This looks like a fake one. The point is too big (the normal diameter is approximately 1.2 cm), the coat of arms is too small, the number 8 is too rounded and the edges are embossed, which is never the case on Swiss plates I'd be interested to know where you got it.

I noticed it does also have wear and tear that a real plate would have, either they faked that as well or it was someone’s souvenir plate.
After a few checks, I think there are 2 possibilities: - either there is a manufacturing error; - or it's a copy, which is more likely. In fact, the ‘base’ of the plate with its stamped edges reminds me of German number plates, particularly the so-called ‘DIN’ plates from before 2000. Normally, it's impossible to get genuine Swiss plates because they belong to the canton. I also compared the font with that of a genuine Swiss plate that I have in my collection (legally) and the central point, the 8 and the 1 are different from your plate. I hope this clears up the mystery surrounding this plate. Have a nice day!
It's difficult to tell for sure for me. Could it be from the other plate manufacturer in Switzerland? As far as I know especially in canton Vaud sometimes plates are not made at the same factory and from a different manufacturer.

You're absolutely right. But the manufacture of license plates in Switzerland is regulated at federal level by 2 things: ordinance SR 741.51 (articles 83 & 85) and the ASTRA texts, which are unfortunately internal and inaccessible. The main problem is therefore to know whether this plate corresponds to these texts. I doubt it very much, because it has features that I've never seen before on Swiss number plates. But let's remain objective. Have a nice day.
