Jacko Very cool spot! A seldom-seen plate series here in the UK
I thought the letter combinations were random? Except for vulgar ones like FCK. CBU seems to be pretty rare here, too. I think it's one of the last letter series before switching from district plates to regional (1C0-9C9) in early 00's.

Interesting. CBU certainly isn't heavily represented in the Czech gallery. My initial comment was meant that the 1960-2001 Czech format is rare to see in the UK though, my last sighting of one in the UK was way back in 2016, and I haven't seen one here since then!

It's pretty rare to see the 1960 format anywhere outside of Czechia. Much like I don't think I've ever seen the black Polish plates here or the old German ones. It's kinda funny, statistics say that Czechia has one of the oldest car parks in Europe but living in Prague, most cars on the road are no older than 7 years. I wonder where are all the old cars In garages under tarps I guess.
