Avis Rental car...
The worst car rental experience of my life. This was the 4th car offered to me after I refused to accept the first 3 cars!! One had a completely flat tyre, one had smashed rear lamps and one wouldn't even start! This one had an expired insurance sticker in the window but I was so angry by then I took it anyway. Shortly after leaving Paris it started to shake badly on the motorway and there was a grinding noise from under the car for the next 4 days.
I have never been so happy to get out of a car! I made a complaint to Avis but of course they do not care!

All rental cars and compagny cars are bad, because nobody takes care of it. My dad and I were going to buy a Grand C4 Picasso, an old executive car. The body was already scratched, the rims the same, the interior was super dirty, everything was falling apart. And finally we open the hood: my father could have killed the seller. Besides, even today he remains shocked by the state of the car. The price ? 16500€ (15000£). Never buy old rental or executive cars. People don't take care of it.

The worst part is that the vehicle was in a Citroën garage, they could have made an effort to clean it

That's a lot of money for poor quality and no attention to detail... Good that he did not buy the car!

Actually, we bought our Caravelle from a rental company and it was fine. My personal experience with rental cars is rather limited (Iceland, and the car was yeah... not spotless but not too bad). However my Granny got some real run-down ones on past trips to Spain, one had a fist-sized hole in the trunk :D :D

Reading all your stories, I consider myself lucky :D I never had any problem with the 3 cars I've rented so far (BMW 2-Series Gran Tourer in Mallorca, Renault Kadjar in Barcelona and Renault Mégane in Dubrovnik)

That's lucky! I've had more rental cars than I can probably remember, but this was by far the worst by a long shot. I also had a new Mustang Ecoboost that was shaking when driving and wouldn't change gear properly in Florida (also Avis!!) and an old Toyota Corolla in Los Angeles that was more rust than metal :D I've only rented 2 cars from Avis and I think anyone can see why I won't be using them again! Mostly though I have had good rentals from other companies (excluding the Corolla), from Volkswagen Polo to Dodge Challenger and everything in between :)
