Actually it is the first serie, but for the respective region code - after the previous AX was completed, AZ looks like it followed. Although usually the serie order isn't the same as in English for example, as it follows the Greek such order instead: A, B, E, Z, H, I, K, M, N, O, P, T, Y and X being the last.

That's also right, and it's noted especially on motorcycles in the cases whilst they have the same region code alongside with that being used at the moment currently for cars, so the order then is different despite (as it has plates 1-999 only per serie), i.e it doesn't follow the same temp as for cars due to these obvious reasons.
