A facelifted fourth-gen in Indonesia means this is most likely one of the fallen victims to the shutdown of Kia Motors' previous Indonesian distributor, PT. Kia Mobil Indonesia (KMI), not long before Indonesian distribution of Kia cars were taken over by Indomobil in 2019 under the new distributor, PT. Kreta Indo Artha (KIA).
It was
early 2018, where KMI gave a hint about the facelifted version of this generation Sportage for the Indonesian market, replacing the pre-facelift model that has been around here since 2016. Unfortunately, KMI closed its doors during 2018, and Indomobil takes over the sales of the Kia brand in 2019 with PT. Kreta Indo Artha, albeit without this rumored model, resulting this facelifted fourth-gen is a cancelled product for Indonesia.
However, what nobody knows right before KMI's closure during that time; turns out KMI already happen to brought a few examples of the facelifted fourth-gen Sportages here, possibly originally for auto show uses. This white one in question
made a surprise appearance at the 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) but NOT by Kia themselves, rather being rented for show by the window tinting firm by Saint-Gobain, Solar Gard.
This reminded me to some of my other Kia revelations in the past; a
Kia Stinger was also brought here (and I did see it in-person five years ago at the 2019 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show), while Direktorat Jenderal Bea dan Cukai Indonesia once auctioned unsold brand new Kias to the Indonesian public, these includes
Rios,
Carenses, Optimas and Sorentos. All of those aforementioned models suggest they were also fall into victims of KMI's closure, like this Sportage.
