My brother had a black 1987 BMW 735i (E32) a few years ago - huge car, but very fast and super luxurious. He did a lot of maintenance himself and kept it flawlessly clean at all times.
In the end, he sold it and got a Jaguar XJR instead(!) - he said that although it looked almost mint, it had become a real pain to keep running. Due to age (probably), the electronics had started to fail constantly, one element after another and replacements cost a forune, even if he installed them himself. Furthermore, the windshield seals were starting to leak and he had to do small rust repairs almost every month, so it had become a real pain to take care of, and very costly as well.
The car was used as a trade in at the Jag dealer and has not been registered again, so probably scrapped, which would be a real shame, in my opinion, and that car was pretty rare.
It was also known to have been the ex-limo of a rather famous danish millionaire back in the 1980s-1990s. So my point is, even if you have a rare car with a prominent history, extremely well taken care of and maintained... there's still a risk that it gets scrapped, especially if used as trade in.
