Yes, it used to be. In an unofficial search engine for Norwegian cars I found 78 vehicles, but among there it is cars still on the road, cars that's deregistered and cars that's scrapped. But 1000MB was a popular car!

Why's that surprising? Skoda seemed to be popular cars all over Europe in the 60's. =)

Hehe, I know that feeling! You start at the edge of a story, and wonder if you should find out just a little bit more... shouldn't take long, but then there's a small "hiccup", so you have to take a tiny detour on the road to the answer. When you finally have the answer, there's something that looks a bit strange, so you decide to check... shouldn't take long, but then...

And suddenly you realize you've spent a whole afternoon on this "tiny" project.

Oh, I made that myself this evening after a comment you made got me intrested in finding out how many of this model are left!
 :D

I wish I could share a Excel or PDF link, but that's not possible on platesmania, so the best I could give was 2 low quality screenshots of my work. :bad:

I used Regnr.info to get the info. Grear website, but having to confirm that I'm not a bot for each click was making me insane =)

As you can see. I think all imported vehichles are listed as scrapped. I think this is a error in Statens Vegvesens Register. About all of the scrapped and imported vehichles are imported from the same year. Somethings not right about it. Another weird thing is that Z37771 was registered in 1913 according to Statens Vegvesen :D

Yup, souns about right
 =)

I'm just happy that I did this project all the way and did not quit or give up halfway there as I usually do with my impossible projects :)

Yes, giving up is the worst since it means you've wasted your time, at least if you haven't found any info at all. Typical projects for me to get stuck in are:

a) I try to look up a car to enter in my database and (maybe) upload the photo here... the car can't be found in the vehicle registry, so I try finding it by vehicle id, nearby numbers and all sorts of weird stuff. This can get super complex and sometimes it just doesn't work and I've wasted my time.

b) I'm working on a photo of an unusual (mostly vintage) car with very limited info in the vehicle registry, so I try to find more, starting on Wikipedia: which generation is it? facelift or not? engine size? import? Often I end up on various car owners' sites with hints on extracting details from old vin numbers. Sometimes it says, for example, that a model was facelifted in 1958... and "my" car is (of course) from exactly that year, so I go through lists of facelift details and compare to my photo "the grille was radically changed with the facelift"... to bad my photo is a rear shot :D but does it show that tiny change to the rear bumper or not? Hmmm... 2 hours later, I may or may not have the data I was looking for...

Of course, such projects seem meaningless to most people, yes even most members of this site - people who easily upload 30-40 photos per day with an absolute minimum of info of any kind.

I know of at least one person who joined this site with a keen interest in vehicle history and often managing to find - and share - complete histories of exported trucks. Unfortunately his work was not appreciated, and he was often met with comments like "why do you bother? nobody cares", "why don't you just post the photos?", "useless information!" and so on, so he left again :(

In general, this site is not a very rewarding place to be for "car history nerds", but I like to take any chance I get to discuss history, and the Norway gallery seems to be one of the best places for that, so thank you Svesor, Aixam and ValskraaCapo for keeping things interesting.

Thank you very much, Tasty! It's sad to read that history behind vehicles are so less appreciated among some members. It seems maybe we up here in Scandinavia are (generally) more interested in this topic..

Speaking for myself, I love to "track" a car that f.ex have been exported/imported, and find its original story. In a way it's like searching for the car's genealogy :)

Another thing that I like with Platesmania is watching all the unknown cars and vehicles (especially fromk Russia and eastern Europe) that we rarely ot never see around here.

In Dropbox I've made my own lists over registration figures on some car models, and also technical info on cars registered in my hometown Tromsø (ZE/ZH plates) and spotted around here, because it's so far away from where I live now, and they are pretty rare to see :) My wife doesn't understand anything of it at all :D
