Toyota Corona Mark II

1st gen Sedan (T60), 1968–1972

License plate of Norway, 1913-1971 - system

| Namsos, Nord-Trøndelag, Norway | 13 November 2021 |
Petrol

30 000th picture in the Norwegian gallery!
I thought I'd make it a special one

This Toyota has had the same owner since 1976 (46 years)! The vehichle has been daily driven for almost 50 years by the same old lady!
When I saw her walk towards the car I thought it was a alzheimers pasient seeing one of her families old car, but when I saw her open the trunk I got mindblown. She couldn't walk without anything to hold on but she sure could drive!
This is probably one of the cars with the longest ownership on Platesmania!

It passed inspection July 2022 and will hopefully be driving many years more as a daily :)

Seems to also be the second 1st gen sedan on Platesmania!

Imagine those 46 years of memories  all those memories. The long trips, the high speeds, the good news and the sad news all happening in the car. Yhe car has always been there for her for most of her life. The Toyota probably knows her better than anyone :in love:

The perfect car to celebrate the 30000 photos, and what a nice story. 1970... at that time Japanese cars were still quite exotic in Europe and only selected models were available.

Thank you for the info :)
It truly is a special one. Wonder what reputation Japanese cars had in that time in Europe. Was it positive or negative? :)

You can read the story of the first Toyota in Europe here https://www.toyota.dk/om-toyota/mere-om-toyota/toyota-i-danmark Text is in danish and that is no coincidence ;)

With all respect, Tasty, but Norway was first... !;) Your link says "The first Toyota – or the first Japanese car in general – to be imported to Europe was a Crown model, which arrived here in August 1963 on Danish initiative."

There was imported 14 Nissan Bluebirds to Tønsberg, Norway in 1960 according to this net link:
https://digitaltmuseum.no/011024225363/bil.
"In June 1960, a boat from Japan arrived at Tønsberg harbor with 14 Datsun Bluebirds on board. (...) Two Norwegian shipowners received the first Japanese cars for Norway. They got an agency for the whole of the Nordics in exchange for first buying 14 cars. In 1960, shipowner Gorg Vefling had the agency for Northern Europe. The interest in Finland was so overwhelming they started regular imports thereto as early as 1962."

In the beginning people in Norway was very skeptical to cars from Japan, so the sale figures was low, but later in the 60's the Japanese cars had shown its reliability combined with a long list of equipment, and several cars were real sales winners through the 70s and forward, mainly Toyota.

As maybe one of the oldest members on here I have a story as well. My friend Peter had an identical Corona Mark II as his first car when he turned 18 in 1979. A red one with the old Austrian system plate (black plate, white digits) W 514.444!
He fitted a powerful stereo in it and when we went together to a discotheque, he parked the car not far from the entrance and played some heavy metal tune, full volume and with open windows, of course long time after midnight. After a while somebody that lived 2 floors above our parking space opened the window and threw a full 10 litres bucket of water on the car :D
