I think this as well with most of EVs
It's early to say, but I think you're right at least when it comes to the Chinese cars.

I'm sure Honqis can be nice to drive and have, but when you start getting real trouble I think there will be little help from China

I'm sure the local dealers are well updated and trained to serve the customers for years. But when speaking of "help from China" - the so far only electric bus (Golden Dragon) in the bus company I use to work for, needed some updates short time after delivery in 2019. As there is very long distance between the Golden Dragon dealers in Norway (!) the factory actually sent two men from China to Larvik for fixing the issue
