You may wonder why the majority of the cars in this car show is 2022 models (tagged #CarsOf2022). The reason is they were registered before 1 January due to new tax rules.
From 2023, VAT will be introduced on new electric cars, on the purchase amount that exceeds NOK 500,000. A car that until last year cost, for example, NOK 600,000 will now cost NOK 625,000, before weight tax.
In addition, a weight tax of NOK 12.50 is introduced for every kilogram of the car's weight that exceeds 500 kilograms. This will affect all new cars, but especially electric cars - as they are on average several hundred kilograms heavier than fossil cars of the same size. A typical new electric car will thus quickly become NOK 20-25,000 more expensive than before.
These fees are calculated from the date of registration,
and not when the contract with the new buyer is written.
In addition, the environmental discount on road tolls will be reduced.
The maximum toll rate on zero-emission vehicles is up to 70 percent of the full rate.
