I've been wanting to ask for a long time, but I keep forgetting. I read that the Irish language is almost forgotten and is rarely used. Is the situation changing towards its revival in everyday life?

That's a good question. At the moment, only 78,000 people speak Irish as a first language out of a population of 5.3 million which is very small. In school, we learn to speak Irish from the age of 5 until around age 18, but very few people tend to learn Irish very well or use it very often.

For hundreds of years, the Irish language was surpressed, but the founding of the Republic of Ireland in the earlt 1930s saw a revival in the language, so all our road signs are written in both English and Irish, all government notices are in both English and Irish and there is even an Irish only TV and radio station as well. However, the number of people who speak Irish is still very low and this is unlikely to change and probably even decrease in decades to come.

It's a pity. I hope everything will change for the better. The people of my country know very well what happens when you switch to the language of your neighbor, forgetting your native language.
