1968 Ginetta G12 1.3
Paddocks of CRAA 2017 car show, Aarhus, Denmark, May 2017
This great little Ginetta and owner Chris Blewett raced in the 1971-class (saloon cars 1966-1971) at the 2017 Classic Race temporary street track in Aarhus.
The car is quite famous, available on posters and also appears on Youtube videos.
As Blewett explains on Youtube, the car is a 1.3 litre, unlike most G12s, which were 1.6 litres. He also explains, that it\'s a bit heavy, this, combined with the relatively small engine, means that it\'s not very competitive, but it was a lifelong dream to get, and drive, one of these cars, and that dream finally came true.
The car normally races as #44, but this number was already in use by Charlotte Engell Jeppesen in a Ford Escort MkI TwinCam, so the Ginetta was renumbered as #144.
At the event in Aarhus, the results were as follows:
Practice: 12th of 16
Qualifying: 16th of 35
Heat 1: 20th of 32
Heat 2: 21st of 34
Final: 15th of 31
Combined overall: 12th of 34
The combined victory went to Benny Rasmussen in a Ford Escort MkI. Although the Ginetta never got anywhere near a podium finish, it was a joy to watch and a refreshing change in a class dominated by Ford Escorts, Minis, Porsche 911s and Opel Kadett Rallyes.
This photo was taken in the paddocks on friday, shortly after practice. I may try to upload 1-2 photos of the car in action on the track to the comments section.
