Actually you'd be surprised just how many car rental places offer cheaper and older cars for rent. When I was looking around RAF Mildenhall/Lakenheath, there were many companies offering cars for rent which were nearly 20 years old, mostly consisting of Japanese saloons like Accords, Avensis' and Lexus IS200's. In fact, I've never seen so many IS200's in one area at once!!

Most of the renting is for US military personnel, usually having just PCS'd over and awaiting shipment of their own US-spec cars.

USAF Auto Rentals, Reliable Rentals and Low Cost Car Rental strictly only rent out to US military due to their insurance agreements only using USAA or Geico.

I think it's a fantastic idea to have older cars out for rent though, means they're dirt cheap for the consumer, and you get a car which actually doesn't feel like a white-goods appliance. :D

It was rented from a little MOT garage up the road from me as the CR-V failed it's test, we also had a 54 reg Fusion from them in 2020!
 :D
