This is my mums new to her 2024 DS 4 Performance Line coloured in the stunning Pearl Crystal. This replaced her Hyundai i30 (AK21 VJX) back in February of this year.
It was very hard to find a replacement for that i30 as she loved the car so much and had a huge emotional attachment to it. There were only a few options which were in the mix which at the time of looking were the Mazda3, KIA XCeed, Peugeot 308 and the DS 4. Despite the Mazda and Peugeot (Soul Red & Olivine Green respectively) being her favourite options they were very cramped in the backseats compared to the Hyundai and that was a killer really as the rear seats were often going to be used. This left it tied between the XCeed and DS 4 and it was the overall looks of the DS 4 and this lovely colour that made it the right choice for my mum.
Having driven this quite a bit I familiarised myself with it fairly quickly after it was bought and I can say that it is a really nice thing. The interior is stunning with plush and soft-touch materials everywhere, even though this was the base-trim when new, and the ride is supple and very comfortable, typically French if you will.
However, there are 2 gripes I have with this car. 1) The safety tech. Whilst obviously useful in certain cases, some things get very annoying very quickly like the speed warning which beeps when you exceed the limit by about 2/3 mph and the lane keeping assist, both of which have to be turned off each time you start the car through the screen, which is about 3 or 4 presses - distracting. 2) Despite this not being a huge car, in some circumstances I found the 1.2 PureTech 130hp to feel a bit gutless, especially when compared to the 1.5 turbo out her old i30. And when paired with this 8 speed ZF auto, although it is smooth, the gears tend to hold onto their revs for quite a while so I found myself upshifting with the paddles quite frequently. I feel it would be an engine more suited to a manual having driven a car using that combination.
Also, I apologise for the car not being clean in these photographs, despite driving it for 2 weeks I never took it for a proper photoshoot :D
