Yes, very interesting modification choices, but first time I’ve ever seen an actual RHD S2000

I haven't seen on either. Plates don't come back to anything so likely it is a JDM import, which would also make it illegal because not 25 years old

Wait a minute, the 25 year law somehow didn’t even cross my brain.

I have a 3rd party service I use to obtain the chassis numbers for JDM/Nonstandard VIN cars that I used often when I was active on VINwiki. I just ran it through multiple times and returned nothing.

Perhaps it’s here under the ‘Show or Display’ Policy, which allows certain cars under 25yo to be imported if deemed ‘historically significant’ by the government.

However, this had a really corny fake Japanese plate on the front, so I find it hard to believe that this could also be fake. At the end of the day there’s absolutely no chance that this is road legal in any sense, as it’s under 25 years old, and the Show or Display law only permits what’s in the name, they’re not allowed to be registered or driven on public roads.

What a mystery! :ups:

Show and display only is for a set list of vehicles. See here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/elig120115.pdf

Really cool spot! I figure it would certainly be an illegal import - likely easier to 'register' as there is a USDM equivalent. I actually saw my first RHD S2k in Canada the other week.

But that’s allowed, because the limit in Canada is only 15 years, correct?

All of Canada is 15, except Quebec is 25

The 15 year rule is a federal rule for all of Canada, whereas I think Quebec has provincially implemented a 25 year rule.
