Well, Basel is located right next to the French border, that could be an explanation! Also, I would like to add that there is no linguistic cleavage in terms of cars in Switzerland. French brands sell a little bit more in the French-speaking part (as Fiat does in Ticino), but German cars (+ Skoda) are leading in every canton! It would be too simplistic to say French cars = French-speaking canton

Nice spot, otherwise, is this tag wrongly used or we have it wrong translated in spanish?, We have it as learning-school vehicle, not learner vehicle (L-plate), so only for car of bussines that teaches to drive.

Hm, in Germany I couldn't even use the tag in the sense it is applied here, since we don't have these "L" signs.

Also really nice spot Helvetics! Judging by the hats on the parcel shelf, I guess they are learning to drive in grandpas car. This winter I used to see an extremely beat up pre-1990 Polo 2 with a ''L'' sign. Sadly I never got a photo.
