My second BL (Basel-Landschaft)

a few years ago before I started spotting Swiss plates always confused me. When I saw a swiss car with a CH oval sticker. I thought, oh a Chechian family that drives a Swiss car. Cool, but I saw that almost everytime a swiss car pased. I did not understand CH was Switserland, but I still don't understand why it's CH. Confusing

It stands for "Confoederatio Helvetica" in Latin words, meaning Swiss Confederation.

More specifically, the CH sticker is mandatory for Swiss cars travelling abroad as Swiss plates do not have a Euroband and do not explicitly indicate the country, unlike most European countries.
I sometimes see French cars with a CH sticker in my area, which is unnecessary and even illegal.

When I was young, I thought it's CH because Schweiz begins with an "sh" sound, but they also speak French and spell it "ch" there =)

When I was young, I thought CH refers to China, and I was quite sure that I see a car from China with CH oval... :jokingly:

When I was young I always thought CH means Zurich. Because Zurich in Serbian translates to Cirih.
