Yesterday I drove last year's Ford Transit, and there were three headlights settings, daylights, parking lights, and full lights. The annoying thing was that when I set it to full lights, they stayed on even when I shut the engine off, so I had to turn the lights off too, and I kept forgetting to turn them back on when I started the car again, because I didn't want to feel like a hipocrite when I'm so against the idea of frontal-only day lights.
I just think day lights shouldn't be a thing and all cars should use full lights, front and back, all the time. Maybe some people are worried about their headlight bulbs lifespan but the basic ones aren't that expensive and replacing them isn't hard either (well, it shouldn't be).
Haven't experienced headlights staying on in the 2nd setting before after turning of the engine, strange..
I can kinda see why DRL's got implemented in the first place, but then they should at least work the way it was intended to.
A lot of Volvo's have a pretty good feature, at least what I've spotted myself. The taillights stay on even when the DRL's are on, other car manufacturers should also implement that feature.
The lifespan of the lights aren't a problem for most consumers, at least not with Xenon's and LED lights. They probably just don't see the reason to use them when it's in the middle of a sunny day...
