This makes me mad. Guys seriously, turn on your fog lights when fog falls. Or use full lights instead of just the frontal day lights, at the very least.
Also, don't take pictures when you're driving.

I've seen this way too many times, and not only when it's fog. When taking the bus to school today (22/11/19) at around 06:15 in the morning, I saw what I believe was Mitsubishi Outlander with no rear lights, only DRL's. Mind you, this was in complete darkness. I only saw it due to the fact that the road is lit up. I'm so frustrated that people do not notice that their rear lights are turned off... They'll probably end up in an accident sooner or later, because someone didn't pay enough attention and rear ended them or something..

Mostly, it's car manufacturers that are to blame. The dashboard and speedometers shouldn't be backlit when the daylights (or no lights) are on, that way if it gets too dark to see the speedometer, the drivers would turn on the full lights themselves.

Or just not include daylights at all and make full lights permanent (that's the way I have it in my car).

Can kinda see where you are going. My dad's 2012 VW Touran has automatic lights, with DRL's.

If he is unsure whether his lights are turned on, he can just look at the interior lights, because they do turn on only when the main lights, or the parking lights + rear lights are on.

You could also just set your lights to the highest position, then they will always be on, but you won't have to worry to turn them off when you turn the car off either.

Yesterday I drove last year's Ford Transit, and there were three headlights settings, daylights, parking lights, and full lights. The annoying thing was that when I set it to full lights, they stayed on even when I shut the engine off, so I had to turn the lights off too, and I kept forgetting to turn them back on when I started the car again, because I didn't want to feel like a hipocrite when I'm so against the idea of frontal-only day lights.

I just think day lights shouldn't be a thing and all cars should use full lights, front and back, all the time. Maybe some people are worried about their headlight bulbs lifespan but the basic ones aren't that expensive and replacing them isn't hard either (well, it shouldn't be).

Haven't experienced headlights staying on in the 2nd setting before after turning of the engine, strange..

I can kinda see why DRL's got implemented in the first place, but then they should at least work the way it was intended to.

A lot of Volvo's have a pretty good feature, at least what I've spotted myself. The taillights stay on even when the DRL's are on, other car manufacturers should also implement that feature.

The lifespan of the lights aren't a problem for most consumers, at least not with Xenon's and LED lights. They probably just don't see the reason to use them when it's in the middle of a sunny day...

That's a deliberate feature in some cars. Definitely in Škodas... The lights stay on even after removing the key from ignition, but the car warns the driver of this fact with a sound when the door is opened. It sure is odd.
