Lada (VAZ) 2110

2110 Sedan, 1995–2007 (–2014 for others)

License plate of Estonia, Regular car plates

I think I've been here long enough to introduce myself so, Hi there, it's nice to finally meet you. This is me and my ten in Sagres, Portugal. The furthest point of mainland Europe and kilometre 5775 of my journey. I have many more photos to come and I'm still travelling with the Lada so hopefully I'll see you around somewhere

Taken on 03.10.2021

Part of the #lulzycars collection and hopefully someone can continue it's journey around the world!

A full travel map of everywhere I've been with the car can be found here.

It's real :) I have a few different cars that I own, currently, a 2016 Skoda Octavia, 2004 Skoda Octavia, 1998 Ford Focus, 2006 Dacia Logan, 2008 Ford Mondeo and this 2001 Lada 2110 (You can find pictures of them under the #lulzycars tag on this site)
The reason I like this car is because it's terrible. I've had a few Russians in Estonia tell me how terrible it is and that nobody in Russia would ever want to own it. This isn't even my first ten series, I've owned 2 other 110s and exported a 112 to the UK! (You can find on platesmania AF-3973)
I wanted to do a trip as far as from Moscow to Vladivostok in this car (I am not able to enter Russia due to strict visa requirements) and so I decided to take it on a circle of Europe. I wanted to feel what it was like to have to drive this every day, though all weathers, road types, just like I would in Russia.
I am a proud Lada owner, and yes, this car is shit in almost every way and my spine feels like it's going to snap, but I love it.

If you ever decide to visit the northernmost point of mainland Europe, and feel like you're ready for a new car, send me a message. !;) I have been toying with the idea of either getting a 110-series or one of the more uncommon Samara models for a while.

Well Estonia isn't exactly far from it so it's possible. Wouldn't the import duty on one of these exceed any sensible logic?

The plates are from when the car is new, they don't get replaced unless the owner requests them to be.
I am absolutely not anti-EU, in fact I'm very pro-EU. I am a British citizen who had my EU rights stripped away from me at the start of this year. I loved the fact the EU allowed me to escape that island 10 years ago, start a business like a local and trade with a huge amount of countries. I am glad I can continue to have the the privilege to reside in Estonia and travel for 90 days in 180 days, yeah it sucks and I wish it was more but what can I do?

It depends on it's age, there is a 20 year mark that makes things significantly cheaper. If the car is from 2001 and costs 1000€, I'll end up paying an additional 500€ in total to get it on Norwegian plates.
The way it works is that you pay a 250€ scrap deposit (you get them back if you scrap the car), then a 25% duty on what you paid for the car. There is no notary or anything like that, you just tell them what you paid for the car.
There is an additional tax at about 100€ if the car has A/C, but this one does obviously not have it, plus likely a smaller fee for the DMV for their time.
If that is reasonable amount for a car like this, I don't know. But at least you get a cool story. =)

I may have an idea if you'd want to "rent" it temporarily where you wouldn't have to register it. If you're interested I can PM you.

I guess it's some sort of loophole so you can drive with foreign plates? =)

That being said, I'd prefer myself to import and get it on Norwegian plates. From my understanding only a few 110's were sold here before the importer went bankrupt, and obviously even fewer survive today, so it'd be a real exotic!
