Why would a car from Ireland be parked at Geneva airport? Do they drive down to Geneva to take a plane? Or is parking just cheaper at the airport so tourists park there while visiting Geneva?

I always see many cool foreign plates in the airports car parks and I don't know why! As I regularly see the same cars parked there several months apart, I think many of them are seasonal workers or people with second homes who live months in Switzerland or in the French Alps and who come back home for some weeks.
I had never thought about tourists parking there because it's cheaper but it would make sense, the car parks are right next to a highway exit and super close to a direct bus to the city center!

Your explanation seems possible as well. But don' they have to get swiss reghistration after 1 year of having the car here?

If they are only staying in Switzerland for some months, they don't need to get Swiss plates :D
