It's the Garda tractor! Ireland loves tractors
so much that even the Police have them!
(and yes, this is an actual Garda vehicle!)

Spotted in Limerick, Ireland (12/2024)

Nice! I knew some Police units in th UK had tractors in their fleets, but I was so surprised when the Irish Gardaí announced one in their fleet!

Yes, it's owned as part of the Garda fleet in this region. I think it's mostly used as a promotional tool rather than actual Garda work (it won't exactly be doing any high-speed pursuits anytime soon :D )

That too :) I did a check with Genesis: "The word "Garda" can refer to several different things, depending on the context:
* Garda Síochána:
* This is the national police force of Ireland.
* "Garda" (plural "gardaí") is also a term for a police constable in this force.
* Lake Garda:
* This is a large lake in northern Italy.
* Garda (Italian municipality):
* This is a town located on Lake Garda.
* Garda (Sweden):
* This is a town on the Swedish island of Gotland.
* Garda Sikring:
* A Norwegian security company.
Here is a brief summary of the most common uses:
* When talking about Ireland, "Garda" usually refers to the police.
* When talking about Italy, "Garda" usually refers to Lake Garda or the town of Garda.
* Garda Sikring is a Norwegian company that does security work."

Wow! Interesting! I knew about the Irish & the Italian meanings, but never the Scandanavian meanings! In Irish, "Garda" translates to "Guard" & "An Garda Siochana" means "Guardians of the Peace!

In Hungarian, "Garda" is a rare surname, and google says it means a kind of fish (never heard this word before). In the meaning "guard" it's spelled with an accent, as "Gárda", but (unfortunately) this word is associated with a neonazi organization...
