It's happened to me before, I took some photos of a few vans outside the Ukraine donation centre here. I walked back towards college and one of the staff come out of the building and confront me in the adjacent car park and asked me why I was taking photos. I told him that I just do it as a hobby and he said "oh alright" and he walked off. It's kinda put me off taking photos of random cars as a result.
I still take photos of foreign cars, seeing that the owner can easily see why it's a hobby if I explain it to them, but I get concerned photographing around lorry parks in service stations because the drivers get aggressive easily.

I'm pretty sure they only had the license plate in Swedish, they looked Serbian or Balkan anyway (so they probably had something to hide)

Me too 90% of the time I have to deal with sympathetic owners and they are often happy that I notice their license plate and take a picture. But then it also happens to meet these dickheads who do not understand the hobbies of others and force you to delete the photos.

Weird, the official database says it belongs to an old Swedish lady, and not stolen. Maybe it's some minor issue, like they bought it, but didn't change ownership officially...
The only time I met unfriendly owners in Sweden, they also looked Balkan or Turks :D

What kind of phone do you have? Never heard that photos can be restored as a built-in function, but this can be very useful (even more than for spotting, for example if the photos serve as evidence)

I think most if not all Android phones have this option. On my phone at least I have a Recycling Bin (like on Windows) with no time limit on how long it should hold on to files I delete. I'm not sure about iPhones but I think they have a similar feature like this too

Yeah, my dad's iPhone got a recover photo option but my HTC phone does not have that option, today I meet a chav whose phone he mates and talked rubbish about me. I tell him it is a public place I allow to do this, then he asks why I take a photo I said it is a hobby and then i walk off but i still hear him talking crap about me.

As antenn said, the car is owned by an older Swedish lady.
You can use "biluppgifter.se" to see who owns Swedish cars. :D

If it was an expensive car, then Balkan/Turks and other immigrants would probably be happy if someone would photograph it. :D

I have never encountered someone noticing me taking a photo of their car, as I usually pretend that I am taking a selfie when photographing cars when people are nearby :D

If you have a laptop/pc, you could try Recuva if someone makes you delete the pictures :)
It pulls up deleted files from your device. I'm not 100% sure if it works but I've used it many times on other type of files on my pc and on my phone. Just a tip :D
