In Singapore you can choose to either have black plates or UK style (white front, yellow rear) plates. Most people choose black, and it's a standard plate colour for other neighbouring countries too
Juterman tkk7406 and it's a standard plate colour for other neighbouring countries too For three countries only: Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. Myanmar is too far, I think.
Presumably they're a holdover from the colonial period.

Black plates look cooler in my opinion, partly because they are of the same color both front and rear in this case. They might be a bit old-fashioned (especially as a lot of countries used them in the 20th century), but they now seem interesting in the present mostly white-plated world.
splot14 Indonesia has just introduced white license plates for private vehicles, which, if I'm not mistaken, will slowly replace black plates over the next five years
As far as I know, those plates are issued with FE-font, right?
