Yes, new petrol and diesel cars will be banned from 2030, and new hybrids from 2035.
These are good questions. I have driven electric cars (Tesla Model S, Renault Zoe). To me it is like driving a microwave, it does a good job but there is no spirit or soul, "sterile". I own sporty cars and one of the biggest characteristics of the cars is the engine (and manual gears), it is the heart and soul of the car, without it, you have a drone, a robot... I would like to explore other directions of energy supply - like making Hydrogen safer, where you have an engine and the emissions are clean and beneficial for the environment.
1. I understand the UK is planning some changes to the power grid with new energy over the next 10 years, there is an article
here about being ready for 2030 (National Grid is responsible for UK power generation).
2. I think technology will improve in 10 years that rapid charging will be possible - Tesla is already making faster charging in under 5 years, with 10 years of technology I think it can be possible.
3. They need to find a way, we cannot continue to poison our planet by digging a hole and dumping them in the ground! If there is no solution for recycling Lithium batteries then we are not helping the planet and the idea must be changed!
I would like to add a 4th question:
My cars live on the street not outside my house and on the other side of the street. It is a residential street with not much traffic but often you must park in different places. I would need a VERY long cable to reach my cars, and it would be dangerous to pedestrians and it would eventually damage the cable with cars driving over it. But because it is a quiet street I do not think they will install charging points along the side - and if they do, who will pay for this? How can I charge my car if it is so far away?
