Congratulations! This is quite an accomplishment! I completed this goal on 9/11/2022 (Unfortunate, I know. Sorry about that...), Hawaii being the last state I needed to catch. The "problem" was that the plate didn't come back to the car, so I made it a goal to look for a Hawaii plate that actually came back to the car it was on. That came true on 10/22/2022, so I have "officially" completed that challenge now! Just thought I'd share my own personal experience haha! Which state would you say was the hardest to find?
Amazing! I had actually completed this challenge a couple years ago and also completed seeing every state in Canada as well a few years back. This just happened to be the last plate I needed from this specific trip (Yellowstone is a mecca for seeing different states plates). I honestly found that West Virginia and Washington DC have always been the challenging plates for me. Where I live is a thoroughfare for people driving from Alaska to the lower 48, and I seem to have just gotten lucky with Hawaii (even seeing one at the grocery store next to my house a few months back). I can see how those two would be especially rare on the east coast!
Oh, that's great! Hawaii was by far the most difficult. Oddly, Alaska wasn't as difficult for me, as I had it before I had SD, VT, and HI (at least). Alaska is definitely not common, though. I pretty much lucked up with my Hawaii plates as well, seeing both in pretty random/unexpected places.
Some of those low population states (VT, ND, SD, WY) are also notoriously tricky to spot!
The funny part is that ND and WY (of all the places) were kinda easy to spot. My first SD spot was pure luck, and VT was just unnecessarily difficult. I would see VT plates around, but they would always escape from me by either moving before I could catch them, or by being missed. One of the first ones I was looking for straight up disappeared...
Funny you mention that - there used to be a Washington DC plate I would sometimes see by where I used to live. It would either pass me going the opposite direction in traffic or I would pass it on the side of the road. By the time I went around to block to look at it - it was always gone LOL
I know that feeling all too well haha! There's this New Jersey plate (J76 KBA, I believe), and it's always going the opposite way in the lane farthest from me, or it's gotten way too far ahead of me because traffic was backed up. I'm still looking for it haha!
