Commercial vehicles traveling between Mexico and the US are required to have both plates. Trucks traveling between the US and Canada only need to be registered in 1 country. It's rare but sometimes you can see Canadian trucks with Mexican plates too.

Commercial vehicles traveling between Mexico and the US are required to have both plates. Trucks traveling between the US and Canada only need to be registered in 1 country. It's rare but sometimes you can see Canadian trucks with Mexican plates too.

Why doesnt mexico allow you to have american plates on your semi truck there?

I'm not sure exactly what the reason is tbh, I've just read that it is a requirement for Mexico.

JSRX (2023-11-01 21:31:33)It has to due with the "apportioned" system, where a portion of your taxes go to each state you drive through. Alaska does not due this, hence sometimes seeing a dual "Alaska/other US state" double registration, and Mexico also does not follow these laws. So, in order for Mexico to receive taxes from companies that operate on Mexican roads, they get double registered.
