The 1982 Illinois License Plate ended at around Y65 4000. Then the 123 4567 format was issued on the 2001 License Plate. After that series was exhausted at 999 9999. Illinois reverted back to the previous format using skipped letters from the 1982 License Plate. Order was B,C,D,F,J,T,Y on the 1982 Plate. Then G,X,A,H,K,L,N,P,R,S,V,E,Y,Z. This License Plate is a return to the Y Series using the unissued numbers beyond Y65 4000. The only other letter remaining is W which will most likely be used next. M is used for Municipal (City Government) Vehicles. U is also used on City Vehicles. I,O, and Q are not used.
