The 'FirstGroup' have owned Greyhound Lines in the states since February 2007. They operate about 90% of all the buses in York where i live, and pretty much most cities around me. They've also have rail services too, they're a massive conglomerate here in the UK, and have even got a 'Greyhound UK' coach company too, although it's small and only serves the south of England. :)

Wow, I did not know this... There really was no indication of this until recently... Amazing Fact ! 90% is quite the majority, and it certainly is quite a conglomerate !! Wow, when did the Greyhound U.K. Brand surface and how well is it doing ? Will Greyhound keep it's name in the U.S. ?? I somehow think they won't keep it. Recently, I've been seeing more of this "First" stuff... :)

Ah, I hope for you're sake First in the States is better than over here :) I can't speak for the buses, almost all Cambridge buses are Stagecoach or Whippet. But FirstGroup used to operate the train services from Cambridge to London, which were terribly maintained and horribly crowded!

Also, I must add, I no longer get the bus to Oxford from Cambridge (about a 2 hour journey) because it's too long to be on a bus! I respect anyone going from TX to CA! :)

90% is a rough estimate, though we have services from Arriva and Trandev in York (Leeds also has all three, but First certainly dominates that city too). I haven't got a clue as to how Greyhound UK is doing, as i don't live in the area it operates in.

First's Transpennine Express (Scarborough - Liverpool via. York, Leeds, Huddersfield, Manchester etc.) is terrible for being either late, or overcrowded, or a mixture of both, the latter being more prevalent.

Since i've got a car now, i've stopped using buses if i can altogether, only on the rare occasion where i'm drinking with friends, or if the car is at the garage or something. They're slow, mostly late and sometimes (especially in my case where i would have to take about 3-4 different buses to either get to work or University, taking nearly 5 hours overall commuting time), inconvenient too.

SORRY TO BOTH OF YOU FOR THE LATE REPLY... I was banned for Boost Liking my own photos using a second account, an accusation that is totally false, but whatever lol

I'll take that as a WARNING !!! Greyhound has always had crappy customer service though, even before First™ !!! Amtrak™ is owned by the U.S. Government yet they offer OUTSTANDING Customer Service... Go figure...

Really ??? Uncomfortable seating ? That's good !! No lie but I took the Greyhound from Phoenix AZ to Fort Lauderdale FL once in 2009 !!! By the time I got off I was shaking and acting erratically !! :D

Ok. Nonetheless, still a major share of the U.K. market ... I understand, I'm pretty sure they're doing alright here... Nobody can afford to fly anymore, I don't even consider that option... Last time I flew was in 2007 !! They raised the rates a little bit too...

Wow, that's some poor management by First™ !! I agree... If it's that bad taking the bus then why should you... 5 hours of committing is EXTREME !!! Do you live that far from work or University ??
