HJ is a forbidden letter combination on license plates in Germany and Austria, as it is a shortcut for HitlerJugend, a Nazi term which describes the youth during Hitlers dictatorship. This letter combination has not been used on any license plates in Austria due to it‘s meaning for many years, neither for custom plates nor for regular ones, so this one is one of few still on the road.
