It's a van imported from Germany (Umweltplakette), that somehow ended up in Bulgaria just to obtain temporary plates and be driven back to Germany. It's just unusual, since most of our vehicles are imported from Germany anyway. =)

Actually that seems to be rather common in this part of town. You can find a whole lot of cars on bulgarian plates here (mostly from Pazardzhik Province) that were most likely bought in Germany. They are officially "exported" but they still remain here. Anything to save some money I guess. :pardon:

Oh yes, that is very common. I don't think many of them even realize they are supposed to have German cars if they are living and working in Germany, but it seems like they get away with running the Bulgarian plates, so why not I guess. =)
Its rare to see them with transit (export) plates though, and the lack of accompanying Bulgarian stickers (inspection, insurance), which to me means these vans were never even fully registered in Bulgaria, just imported from Germany and then instantly issued with export plates and driven back.

I'm not even sure if those cars ever have been to Bulgaria to begin with. Some guy possible flies to Bulgaria with all car documents and comes back with a bag full of plates.
 :D

While not impossible through connections and bribes, I honestly doubt this happens that often. Bulgaria is not that far. I say that as somebody who has driven non-stop from Bulgaria to Germany together with another driver in about ~18 hours. :pardon:
