Now this is what electric plates should've been, because most of Europe that do such plates always include green in some form - either background or the characters

Green writing is already used for tax-free vehicles in Germany, so this wasn't an option. The "E" is is also better suited as it is in line with adding a letter/numbers to signify a special registration (Seasonal, Historic, Re-issuing for Diplomatic plates), rather than using a different colour as in tax-free or Dealer plates that serve a special purpose. By the way, this is a great spot, I haven't seen a Green E plate so far, and no Diplomatic E plate either. However, I recently saw a Military E plate, unfortunately without photo.

M_Fix I never understood how these green letter plates work, what are the requirements to have this plate?
These are used for some agricultural machinery, vehicles of charitable or relief organisation, vehicles of showmen and circus companies, self-driving machinery such as motorcranes as well as certain kinds of trailer. This is an uncommon example, but I wouldn't assume there is something fishy going on.

I know it's not the best quality, but at least it is readable!
Funnily enough, this is the exact one I saw Makes me wonder if it's the only one currently Haha, yeah maybe it is! I saw it on the A3 near Weibersbrunn in Bavaria.
Ahh nice I know this stretch of Motorway extremely well, however, I saw it on the A5 in Hessen, near Friedberg.
