This was the first time someone noticed me taking pictures of their car and confronted me asking why I did so. When I said it was a hobby, finding rare license plates and posting them on a plate spotting community, they were cool about it. Nonetheless I offered to delete the pictures for their privacy, but they said no need to, it's all good. They just wanted to know if I'm police or someone who bumped into their car or any other kind of troublemaker.
All in all a 10/10 first confrontation experience with a nice and super chill American owner. Can recommend.

I wonder if they knew of the car itself being somewhat rare in Germany.
My first experience with another car owner (outside of some car show) was positive as well. He was some older dude who was proud i pictured his old Audi 80. He first asked if he parked wrong or his TüV (technical inspection) expired
