Да, машины ещё встречаются, но редко. А про современные номера правильно говорить, что они не с европолоской, а с FE-шрифтом, ибо шрифт - главный отличительный признак старых и нынешних немецких номеров.

Passat B3s have suddenly become quite rare during the past years, old German plates aren't that common anymore either, but still not too rare.

Well, you see the B3 several times in traffic, I personally mainly took pictures of DIN plated German cars. The DIN font is more beautiful than that ugly Euro font. And I am happy to see that beautiful font on the streets. Unfortunately more and more plates get out of traffic
The division of motor vehicles are no longer bound on sealing DIN plates, so if you need a new seal or plate, you will have to get Euro plates in the vast majority of cases.
DIN plates on post-2000 vehicles are very rare. I only saw 3, one in Weimar (WE) on a new Mercedes B-class and two in Aachen (AC) but I only have one photo of one AC.
What I observed is that some DIN plates are sealed with newer seals.
