Ford Motor Companylla oli itsenäistä suunnittelutyötä tekeviä tehtaita myös Yh- dysvaltain ulkopuolella kuten Saksassa, Iso-Britanniassa, ja Australiassa. Fordilla oli toimintaa myös Ranskassa 1916-1954 Ford SAF/Ford France yhtiön muodossa. II maailmansodan jälkeen Ford Francen käynnistäminen oli hankalaa, joten yhtiön 1948 esitelty uutuus Ford Vedette oli suunniteltu kokonaan Detroitissa mutta sen pieni V8-moottori oli ranskalaista suunnittelua. Auto muistuttaakin läheisesti saman aikakauden Mercury-malleja.
Ford Vedette jäi Ford Francen viimeiseksi automalliksi tehtaan siirtyessä myöhem- min Simcan omistukseen kun Simca osti Fordilta 1954 Ford Francen Poissyn auto- tehtaan sekä oikeudet tehtaan malleihin. Ford France oli suunnitellut Vedetten seu- raavan mallin jo lahes valmiiksi ja lokakuussa 1954 esiteltiinkin uusi Vedette, mutta nimellä Simca Vedette. Simca jatkoi Vedetten tuotantoa eri mallisarjoina 1961 saak- ka. Näitä Ford Francen 1948-1954 valmistamia Ford Vedette-malleja tuotiin myös Suomeen 50-luvun alussa jonkin verran ilman suurempaa menestystä.
Ford Motor Company also had factories doing independent design work out- side the United States, such as in Germany, Great Britain and Australia. Ford also had operations in France from 1916 to 1954 in the form of the Ford SAF/ Ford France company. After Wold War II, it was difficult to start Ford France, so the company's new Ford Vedette presented in 1948 was designed en- tirely in Detroit, but its small V8 engine was of French design. The car closer resembles the Mercury models of same era.
Ford Vedette remained Ford France's last car model when the factory later became owned by Simca. In 1954, Simca bought Ford France's Poissy car factory and rights to its models from Ford. Ford France had already designed the next Vedette models almost ready, and in October 1954 the new Ve- dette was introduced but under the name Simca Vedette. Simca continued the production of Vedette in different model series until 1961. These Ford Vedette models manufactured by Ford France from 1948 to 1954 were also brought to Finland in the early 50s to some extent without much success."
