moralisa I would be grateful if you could possibly be so kind to explain the fact why does car have white front license plate, but yellow rear license plate meanwhile.

I try to explain to you:
The FNI plates of france were: the front in white and the rear in yellow, but when the SIV was put, the two plates are white so if you change your FNI plates because they broke you have the two in white

SSE4: I don't know the real reason. Maybe similary to lights (white/yellow-red) that's make easier to distinguish front and rear side of the car.

Выдержка из французского законодательства:
Начиная с 1993 года, использование номеров со светоотражающей поверхностью стало обязательным.

Именно тогда передние номера стали белыми, а задние - жёлтыми. Но позднее, незадолго до ввода SIV, задние номера также стали белыми.
