I believe in the UK, Ireland and Spain, trucks and trailers have the same insurance which is why they have the same number plates or something.

Yes, these 3 countries are an exception I believe as I think there is some EU agreement which means trailers must have different registration plates. This is why if trailers from the UK, Ireland or Spain leave their own countries, they must have a separate number plate unique to the trailer displayed in addition.
