As a local of Negeri Sembilan, it's nice to see the plates overseas like Singapore!

I can imagine that. Overall, however, I was disappointed with the yield of out-of-town plates in Singapore: only SGP and MAL. Perhaps I should have rather chosen Bangkok as a stopover for my Thailand vacation. There I would have been more successful in this respect.

Personally I would say foreign plates are generally much rarer in east Asia than in Europe. None of the countries can match the number and variety of foreign plates you'd see in any European country, so if you were expecting something like that here unfortunately you would be indeed disappointed (I was as well).

Whilst I haven't been to Thailand I'm not sure if you'd find more foreign plates there (especially in Bangkok), I think amongst the southeast Asian countries Mayasia would be the best because of its location, but even there Singaporean plates are rare (unless you go to Johor), and Thai are even rarer.

Based on my observations:

Singapore registered vehicles are pretty common here than you may think, especially during festive holidays. It's easier to spot them along the E2 NSE (North-South Expressway). In fact, I can no longer count with two hands the number of Singapore cars in a small city like Seremban within a day. This is probably partly due to how cheap it is to spend here, as well as long-distance family across the region here.

Thai plates on the other hand are rarer, most Thai vehicles owners usually come here for work as Malaysia's salary is higher than Southern Thailand. Most of the Thai vehicles usually come from Southern Thailand like Songkhla, Yala, Pattani and Satun. Usually you'd spot them near Thai food restaurants, at least in my observation.

Indeed Singaporean plates are fairly common in Malaysia, in the same way that during Hari Raya I saw a lot of Malaysian cars here (especially at the Geylang Serai Bazaar), but this is still nothing to what one would see in Europe.During the summer months in Greece, if you happen to go to any of the popular tourist islands, in places like beaches and main streets you'll see more foreign cars than Greek cars! Sometimes it makes you feel like you're not in Greece based on the cars you see. =)

I didn't expect to see as many foreign plates in SGP or Thailand as I see every day in Germany. But I had hoped for at least a handful during my 2-week stay. In the end, I saw only SGP and MAL during three days in SGP. On Koh Samui I saw 1 x SGP, 3-5 x MAL and nothing else. At least I could photograph some special series of T. As I said, maybe Bangkok would have been the better choice for platespotting instead of SGP. But a nice vacation it was of course anyway.
