License plate of the Netherlands, Dealer (Regular)

The biggest #JackoCars financial mistake I ever made!

In June 2023, as part of a big European road trip, I decided to purchase this 2003 Mercedes-Benz C 200 CDi "Classic", which had done 570,000km, for 1,000€ The plan was to drive it to Bulgaria, and sell for profit. Little did I know, this shitbox would leave me stranded on the side of the road outside of Hannover, Germany, with a seized and overheated engine. It's certainly put me off Mercedes-Benz products, and made me smarter, regarding buying cars abroad! :D

Here it is at the dealer, on the dealer plates, which I drove with during a test drive of the car. Honestly, the car drove absolutely fine, especially for the mileage!

I did, without the car. I ended up getting a train to Hamburg, where I met up with old Platesmania collegue Rhineland-Palatinate, and caught a flight to Varna the next morning!

Interesting the dealer had two variants of this plate number, including a US-sized pair I'm presuming :D

Unfortunately it had to be scrapped, as it was not financially viable to fix the engine on such an old car, especially in Germany. We looked at options to potentially get it transported to Bulgaria, but in the end it would've ended up too expensive.

That's a shame, unfortunately some things can't always go the way you want. I sold my e61 530d last year because road taxes in The Netherlands are absurdly expensive for diesels, especially those kinds of cars, i did'nt want to pay that anymore. So I bought a Getz with a 1.6 engine from 2001 for temporary, I couldn't actually drive that much cheaper. I wanted to sell it when I could buy myself a great car. Unfortunately, the clutch broke earlier this year, and the technical condition of that car didnt look good either, so I sold the car to a car dismantler. On the day it broke, I bought a new Getz that same evening, but with a 1.3 engine. Hopefully this one will last as long as possible. Next year I want to buy a new car, and then we want to keep this one in the family.
