License plate of Norway, Cars

Tromsø
1.3 4WD 2004 manual

First non-black Svalbard plate in gallery.
It's very rare to see cars on Svalbard plates outside of Svalbard, this is due to high cost of shipping and because on Svalbard there is no tax on cars being sold there, so once a car is ''exported'' to mainland Norway they have to pay the usual taxes, and the black plates are swapped for normal white or green plates, using the same number as they had previously.

transferred/re-issued plate

That's cool! I didn't realize they kept the same number when returning to Norway. First white Svalbard plate on the site too!

Very cool! Although I am surprised you say they're "rare".
I wouldn't have thought to see any when I was in Norway (like for example no Greenland plate in Denmark), but I saw two. Of course, that's really rare compared to the general number of cars, but more than I expected :D

You're right. They are not extremely rare in northern Norway. But still an uncommon sight, but this was the first one I really noticed. So far I have 7 uploaded and at least one that's not, so I have seen some. And I have more Svalbard plates uploaded than some ''normally'' issued plates such as only 1 ''XA'' plate. But that's because I take a picture every time I see one compared to others. Also where did you see them? I would assume they are much more common in the North than in the south. Hopefully you took some pictures. :D

I did, but it was back in 2015 (I think), and I saw them in Svolvaer and Tromso :D

There are pretty many surprisingly rare codes in the gallery, while this isn't the rarest, it's my favourite. [/url]. Issued to 89 cars in 2001. Out of which 44 are still on the road with it's original plates today. This might be my rarest, one out of 34 issued ones. .

And this might be the rarest one on the site, one out of 20. [url=http://platesmania.com/no/nomer12963599

In contrast, Svalbard plates have been issued to about 3000 cars. But then again most of these cars don't come back to the mainland once they go up there. And it's the least issued plate (if you exclude hydrogen plates, military plates, etc). On second place there is Storslett with about 4400 (which I have seen quite many of since it's close to me) and Sundalsøra with 5700, and only one upload in the gallery.

Cool statistics!
Maybe I'll make it to Svalbard too one day :D
