It's interesting how, in the first few years after WWII, american trucks were extremely common in our part of the world (northwestern Europe): Chevrolets, Fords, Studebakers etc.

Same for police cars and ambulances (this included car makes like deSoto, Packard and Buick)

Even the US passenger cars seemed to make up a larger percentage of the fleets.

When looking at old b&w archive street photos, it's quite remarkable. But this started changing quite soon after the war with the european car makes totally taking over, and then in the late 1960s it was time for the japanese cars to join,

Yes, you have a point there, but during the fifties the East European and Russian cars dominated the roads in Norway due to a trade agreement, at least for private owners. Authorities, medics, police and military often used American vehicles, but after the car sales was released in 1960 private car buyers started to buy vehicles from other countries in a bigger scale.
