Historically "franc" meant "French" in Hungarian, but it started referring to "French disease" (syphilis) and in the last 100 years it's only used as a mild swearword  =)

So funny  :jokingly: that Magyar people refer to syphilis as French. As A half-Frenchman, I find it quite funny and remember that I've already seen Magyars using word syphilis when smiling for a photo.
Is it something common still today ?

Syphilis was called "French" in many languages, I suppose (see Wikipedia) but probably only until about the 19th century.
And I've never heard it said for a photo, they were either joking or you misheard  =)
