My grandpa's first Trabant 601 (from 1972 or 73) was IX-53-67, if I remember correctly.

Eh, thanks for the photo. I feel lucky to have spotted the license plates of an abandoned Opel Ascona (LO 237-08), driven until around 2007-08, around a week before they were returned to the police:
