The car has original plates (or replacement plates made during that period). The font used on Platesmania was only introduced in 2001. So officially ALL plates made after 2001 should have this font but a few places still can make the older font styles for older cars if requested, so it is possible these were made recently, but unlikely!
And that's the same for the car too - the front plate seems to be the pre-2001 style so would have been replaced (lost or damaged), and made in the current font at that time. The back remains original...

You have YOM plates in some states at least - in Florida I've seen loads! But yeah, in the car community we like to keep things how they were, if you put a new Euroband plate on a 1960's Aston Martin it's just not proper behaviour
