So true! :D I wasn't sure if this was just an advertisement for Yorkshire or if this bus was a former Yorkshire bus that is now moving south...

Looking at photos of this bus from Flickr and other websites, this particular bus has been doing the Heathrow run with 'HotelHoppa/National Express' since at least 2009 (presumably it's been doing this route all its life), and has had the 'Yorkshire' livery since 2015, so I think it's just an advertisement. The Scottish registration is used as these buses are made around the Falkirk area of Scotland. :)

So just a good advertiser then!
I remember from a young age wondering why the buses in my area often had Scottish plates, so one day I got around to looking into it and discovered that they were registered at the time of production, rather than by the companies that operated them

Exactly, 'Welcome to Yorkshire' have been advertising the county for a while now, and manage to advertise some big-budget events worldwide such as the 'Tour de Yorkshire' and various different markets across the county. I even visited their HQ in Leeds a few years ago for a university project.

Yeah that always fascinated me too regarding the plate codes. It's interesting though, as I often see London-registered buses in York, which were previously used in London before being used here, plus because of the manufacturer registration, you also see Scottish-registered buses in Brighton too.

Often you may see buses/coaches with Yorkshire plates affixed too, as there are multiple bus manufacturers in the region, such as Plaxton (Scarborough) and Optare (Sherburn-in-Elmet, Leeds), plus the main importer of Van Hool, VDL, BMC, Otokar, Yutong, Scania-Higer buses is based near Castleford, so they just register the buses at the nearest office.
