it looks like a Morris Marina Pickup, but the year of manufacture and the name of the car according to the extra information category seem to indicate otherwise... what is it, exactly?

575 is the name of Marina Pickup and vans in New Zealand. As the production ceased in 1981, I guess a 1983 is a simple mistake in paperwork, or some legal trick. I don;t know how the thing in UK works, but before we entered the EU, it was possible to register vehicles built as the so-called "Folder", this privilege was commonly used when importing cars from abroad to avoid customs duties / excise duties. In other words, a car without an engine was brought separately, and an engine separately from that car.

At that time, such a car was classified as car parts. In Poland, an engine for the car was installed and registered as the so-called "flatboat". And then, the year of importing the vehicle as the year of its production was stamped into the registration certificate.

Oh yes, i did remember stories of people importing cars into Poland disassembled, and then assembling to bypass higher VAT/import taxes. Might be what happened to this thing?
Indeed if this were a true 1982/1983 car, then it would have recieved white/yellow plates.
