License plate without vehicle

License plate of the United Kingdom, 1963 year system

2024.2. Budapest XV, Hungary.

First #IoM plate without vehicle in the gallery!

Part of #KuvaszCollection since 2022.8.19, from a scrapyard in Debrecen.
I was walking there with my mum and 2 friends, when I had an idea to just walk in front of the scrapyard, and look in if there's something interesting. I was 10-20 meters away from the entrance, and I saw this plate on an Audi A6, which was sitting directly at the fence, which I could look through. I immediately took a picture because I knew how rare it was (I only knew it because few weeks ago, I read through an entire license plate website, which also had information about these), and thought "How happy I would be if we went in and they gave the plate to me!". Then we went in. The workers there were very friendly, and one of them brought us on a "tour" around the scrapyard (I loved it, it was also the first time I went in one), and we reached it. The worker and I went to the back of the car, and he took the plate off and gave it to me. (He gave me the screws too!) Then I just looked around, found 2 more good English plates (W769 MAB and SA55 WJU, I will upload them soon), which the worker also gave me. I thanked him the plates, and we went back to our friends' house.
This plate was the starter of my serious license plate collecting. Then, in August 2022, I had around 35 plates (including these 3), and now I have 214.
And here is the plate now, proudly being part of my collection, and being taken very good care of by me. :D

Really nice story! Wish people would be like this on scrapyards in Malta too...

Thanks for the story! You're very lucky for the scrap man to give you those plates. I've asked a few scrapyards near me and they've all refused. My first plate was a German seasonal from Limburg-Weilburg, given to me by a contact who had friends living there. =)

Nice! My first plate was a Hungarian temporary import plate pair from 1994, given to me by my dad. =)
By the way, out of the 7 scrapyards I have been in, there was only 2 where the workers said they can't give plates, so I guess scrapyard workers are probably more kind than there.
Also, out of these 7 scrapyards, there was one where they had a huge pile of hundreds of English plates, and they were selling them for around 100Ft (£0.2) per piece, which was absolutely a never-to-be-returned opportunity to buy plates this cheap. (I knew about them because they uploaded an ad to an online shopping site that said "English number plates no pair 50pcs 5000ft". When I saw their ad, I immediately knew that I had to go there =) ) So I went there, and bought 68 UK plates for a per piece price of £0.19! They even had custom plates, all age identifiers from Rxxx xxx to 62, and I could even possibly get a complete area code collection from there.
This is how it looked like: (picture from their ad)

I've already uploaded 2 of them, you can find them by seaching "quattroplan" (these plates were in Quattroplan Car Part Dealership in Kecel (Bács-Kiskun county)).

Ever since I uploaded this, one thing has annoyed me more and more. When I made this photo, the camera protector glass of my (previous) phone was broken, and because dirt got in on the hole, the photo quality has gotten worse, and there was even a black dot on the camera itself, which I couldn't remove.
So, this photo was made with 1.7x zoom, so the camera didn't see the black dot. (but I could have also done this with my mother's phone, because the camera of that had no problems... :wall: )
But just because the (not that good) quality, I won't change this photo; instead, here are some better quality pictures of the plate. :D

Text on the back (this is actually printed upside down compared to the front side)

And the first photo from when I found the plate. :D
