April 30th 2024, marking my 18th birthday!!! Eighteen years on this earth, that feels absolutely wild to say; so I thought I'd share this picture that I had forgotten to upload at the time. This is from my second outing in Dexter to Llandudno last year. Today also marks a year since I first drove Dexter on the roads, crazy how time flies ey!!!

Can't wait for that to come any quicker :D . Still have a blackbox for this second year but I have more mileage allowance and a slightly cheaper premium than last year.

Ugh, you poor boy... I mean man now :D I am so happy they didn't rule in favour of everyone requiring a black box, I don't think I could do it :D

Yeah I was so excited to get my first really noticeable drop in insurance - so what did I do? Buy a more expensive car to insure :D

Yeah, cost me £1600 this year to insure, absolutely astronomical insurance for normal standards but is very cheap compared to what a lot of my mates are getting quoted for. One of my friends who shares her dad's 2016 1.0 Focus cost £2500 with a blackbox, which is crazy. Then another mate, he got his mums old 2008 MINI Clubman 1.6 diesel which has cost him £3500 in insurance but he wasn't having a blackbox, I don't blame him to be honest. So I think I have got a very good deal with Dexter for the last couple of years compared to what other people I knew have payed/are getting quoted.

Plus I have 8,000 miles for the year this year rather than 6,500 I had previously, which has felt restrictive over the last few months as I was below 2,000 remaining miles in January...

I paid £3k for my first year in W973JFC, without a black box :bad:
The road design in the area I live in combined with the hours I was going to and leaving work, meant that I would have been penalised so heavily, through no fault of my own, and my 2nd year would have been astronomically high

Yeah. To be honest, my blackbox isn't restrictive at all. Like it pings up on the app when I've sped slightly, like, "you have gone 25 in a 20" sort of thing. But then I get a driving score per 100 miles driven which marks me on my acceleration, driving time (so I think its a lower score when driving at peak times or at late night, so basically my college journey at 9am), and then Eco Driving. But this is just for a score, which my average over the last year has been about 80/100 which got me my good driver bonus for my second year.

It dropped for me for quite some time. but in the last couple of years, it's gone up exponentially. With my recent house move, they wanted £240 extra, on top of what I'm paying now, and having been curious for prices, my Saab is going to cost me nearly £1000 a year to insure at my new place, all because people around this area drive like actual idiots, and there's no driveway parking. I will have 9 years with no claims too.

Insurance in this country, like many other countries, is pure daylight robbery. Every insurance company is there to maximise profits, whilst providing the bare minimum of a service, and we're forced to play their game which we will lose...

The house, always wins!

At least you/your mates didn't get quoted £6600 a year for the priviledge of driving without a black box... That was in 2018 as well. Don't buy a car with the word "Sport" in the name - that's my tip.
