Completely forgot to add this info in the description when uploading, so am doing so in the comments!
This was originally my mum's car, which she purchased from the Great Trade Centre (re-named CarGiant in the mid-2000s) back in the Summer of '97. Ten years later, it became my first car after I passed my test (not in this, but a second gen Ford Focus hatchback)
It didn't have power steering, and absolutely refused to start on cold/wet days – something the local garage eventually rectified by installing a manual choke lever, but it was a lot of fun, and never broke down (except on one occasion in '99 when the clutch cable snapped).
Having said that, it failed its MOT regularly in its final years, and was slowly becoming more and more expensive to keep roadworthy. It was eventually written off in January 2010 after the driver of a 4x4 lost control when taking an icy corner too quickly, and ploughed into the front wing (the car was parked at the time).
Unusually, the insurance company didn't take the decision to scrap the car, and exported it instead. I'd like to think it's still alive somewhere in Africa, rolling along a dirt road without a front wing
I have all the badges and tax discs from this car, plus the replacement front plate (made in the horrid Charles Wright font) which replaced the cracked one in this photo.
