Common in Bulgaria. A lot of the UK-registered cars here have had MOT expired and have been untaxed for years, 1508 has even spotted one that hasn't had any of that since 2009.

They never go back to the UK. Most I see here have local insurance and tax stickers on the window, but are still on their British plates.
